Happy 2017, fellow beer lovers.
Another year, another change of state law to help make Memphis a better beer city.
The great state of Tennessee passed a law increasing the alcohol level we can brew from 6.2 percent ABV to 10.1 percent ABV.
The law took effect on Jan. 1 and we're going to take advantage of it to bring you some tasty brews.
Our first offering will be Slumber Party Imperial Stout. We're not setting a release date for it yet, as no beer will be served before its time. Keep an eye on our social media or camp out at the tap room and we'll let you know.
As always, we've got a good slate of events both in the tap room and around the city.
First off, we'll be at Miss Cordelia's on Jan. 11 for Food Truck Wednesday. They'll have Stanley's Sweet Street Treats Food Truck and the Creamery of Memphis with homemade gelato from 5 to 8 p.m.
On Friday, Jan. 13, we'll be at the Science of Beer, once again being held at the Pink Palace. Assistant brewer Adam Cagle is making a small batch of Shrunken Head Saison just for this event, so don't miss it.
3 Shades of Blue will be holding a Grizzlies watch party at Central BBQ on Summer Avenue on Wednesday, Jan. 18. There will be Central BBQ and Memphis Made giveways, as well as beer specials on all our brews. Join us for beer, barbecue and basketball.
Closer to home, the Comma Comedians return to our tap room Thursday, Jan. 19 for Drafts & Laughs. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Cover is a very affordable $2.
Also, anyone who's been to our tap room knows we're all about beer education and making Memphis a better place to drink beer.
That's why we're hosting several parts of Bluff City Brewers & Connoisseurs 2016 Extravaganza.
If you've ever thought about judging beer, there will a training sessions on Jan. 21 in our event room.
Home brew judging will actually take place in February for the Extravaganza. Contact the BCBC for more specifics, as these events are great ways to develop your palette.
Finally, on Sunday, Jan. 29, we'll be at Local Vocals and Brews at Tin Roof on Beale Street.
The event, which is planned for the last Sunday of every month, is 6-10 p.m. and will have beer specials and live local music.
